The SMiLe project organized and Open Consolidation Event of institutions in the field of Health Care provision in the area of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace. The event took place at Chris & Eve Mansion, in Komotini, on Friday, 7 December 2018 and focused in the following topics:

  • Primary Healthcare Accessibility
  • Primary Healthcare Evaluation
  • Organizational cooperation in the field of Primary Healthcare

The event had as an overall goal to develop a citizens-user oriented common management plan for the healthcare needs of the area.

Local authorities, Patients’ and Persons with Disabilities Associations, Medical and Pharmaceutical Professional Associations, as well as representatives of Secondary Healthcare Institutions took part in the event.

The event started with a short presentation of the SMiLe project – Strengthening primary Medical care in IsoLated and deprived cross-border arEas- that is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and by national funds of the countries participating in INTERREG V-A “Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020″Cooperation Programme.

The 4th Health District of Macedonia Thrace and its role in providing Primary Health Care were presented by the 4th Health District Manager Efstratios Plomaritis.

Professor Alexis Benos of the Medical School of the AUTh presented the intervention framework for Primary Health Care.

An open discussion on the project themes, as well as topics, brought up by the participating institutions followed. The representatives discussed their institutions’ priorities, as well as the challenges that they face and possible cooperation fields were identified.
